Introduction

Hua Yi Language & Art Academy is a non-profit organization registered with the State of Oregon. The Academy provides a platform on which talented teachers, painters, writers, and dancers from China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and other areas of Chinese culture may gather to exchange, polish, and teach their craft for the benefit of local communities. The focus of the Academy shall be to provide quality teaching of Chinese language and art, and to enhance culture exchange, understanding, and diversity.

Starting in the winter term in 2010, the Academy offers after-school Chinese language, art, and dance lessons daily.

Chinese Language: The language lessons are designed through a collaborative effort of all teachers who combine their years of experience in language and art teaching. The lessons from beginning to advanced levels are designed to foster desire to learn through fun, lively, and one-on-one teaching. Students shall learn how to read, write, and converse in Chinese.

Core Teaching Staff:
Luh Jang Chen – Past Principal of Corvallis Chinese School, possesses over 20 years of experience in language and art teaching in Taiwan and North America.
Gelan Cai – Majored in Chinese Language Education, has been teaching Chinese in Willamette Chinese School and Ashbrook Independent School for over ten years.
Hong Xia – Majored in education, has taught grade schools in China, England, Singapore, and the U.S. for over 20 years.

Drawing & Painting: Taught by Luh Jang Chen. Students choose topics of their interest to draw and color, focusing on developing ability to observe, discern, characterize, and express.

Dance: Taught by Mimi Chen, who specializes in Chinese dance choreography and has years of experience in teaching Chinese dance. Focus on introducing the basics of Chinese dance and dance history, and on laying foundation for more advanced dancing.

Culture Work Shop: Culture events are offered on Friday and vary in frequency, topics, and media. Topics may include art, history, culture, science, recent development, and films. These events are free.
